Nothing suits me more than taking a trip, and the best trips involve books. When I was
younger, I would curl up under the blankets with a flashlight and a book and continue adventures long after bedtime. As an adult, I can’t wait for the Louisiana Book Festival and the Southwest Louisiana Family Book Festival because new adventures wait to be discovered.
When you open a book you can embark on a trip to any destination on this earth or beyond. Louisiana Book Festivals are the best adventures. As you walk the vendor aisles of the Louisiana Book Festival in Baton Rouge in October, various covers entice you to take a step closer. Children eagerly run to tables as something catches their eye.
Each cover beacons to worlds yet undiscovered. The festive atmosphere heightens the senses as the smell of food from vendor trailers fill the air. The sound of the band from the stage echoes as you walk through the crisp air. Costumed characters walk among the crowd waving to school-aged children who approach the character or younger children who hide behind a parent. Smiling, I know in time those younger children will understand and run to the characters in a following year.
The third Saturday in February, the SWLA Family Book Festival’s sights and sounds welcome families in Lake Charles as local authors set up tables eager to visit with adults and children alike. Featured authors and workshops entice browsers to visit as presenters share their enthusiasm about books and the adventures they have magically woven for all to enjoy. Food vendors and children’s activity areas beacon to families as they stroll by.
Since it’s local, you can easily stop by during the day to share another family fun-filled free attraction in the Lake Area. You can walk through the door to a world filled with fun and excitement from ten to four at 809 Kirby Street on February 17, 2018.
